Chassis No. 1850

Engine No. 199 PB

Body No. 1170/1921

The MG PA was a pivotal model in MG's lineup, succeeding the J-Type Midget and laying the foundation for the marque's legendary T-Series. Originally powered by an 847cc engine with a three-bearing crankshaft, improved camshaft, and twin OM-model SU carburetors, this PA has been upgraded with a later 939 cc overhead camshaft four-cylinder engine from an MG PB. The PB's engine included advancements such as an additional main bearing, enhancing durability and performance for both road use and competitive motorsport. The PA was produced in limited numbers, with only 1,973 units manufactured.

The MG PA presented here, chassis number 1850, is a meticulously restored example of MG's famous pre-war sports car racing pedigree. Supporting documentation shows it was first delivered in Dorset, England, and eventually imported to Cincinnati, Ohio in February 1975. Following its importation to the United States, the car underwent a comprehensive restoration in the early 2000s by a dedicated MG enthusiast. The restoration process was conducted with fastidious attention to detail, ensuring the car not only retained its original charm but also met the high standards expected by those passionate for the marque. Emphasizing its sporting intentions, the PA is equipped with J-Type/Le Mans cycle wings and Brooklands wind screens, both reminiscent of factory competition MGs of the period. Furthermore, it is equipped with essential accessories such as side curtains, a soft top, boot cover, and full-cab tonneau cover, offering practicality alongside its sporting prowess.

It has since been showcased at numerous club events and concours, including The Arizona Concours, and will surely be welcomed at many other high-profile exhibitions and vintage driving events.

Accompanying this MG PA is an extensive dossier of documentation, including original factory build sheets, order documents, and a comprehensive photographic history that chronicles its restoration journey from start to finish. A lightweight and purposeful sports car, the MG PA provides a stylish peek into the exciting world of pre-war 1930s motoring. Striking a fine balance between robust engineering and sportiness, this example offers great visual appeal combined with an uncommonly rich provenance.
