Beschreibung

"The MGB is a sports car launched in May 1962 to replace the MGA. Introduced as a four-cylinder roadster, a coupé with 2+2 seating was added in 1965. The MGB was a relatively modern design at the time of its introduction, utilising a monocoque structure instead of the traditional 'body-on-frame' construction used on both the MGA and MG T-types. The lightweight design reduced manufacturing costs while adding to overall vehicle strength. Wind-up windows were standard and a comfortable driver's compartment offered plenty of legroom. The MGB's performance was considered brisk at the time of its introduction with a 0-60mph time of just over 11 seconds aided by the relatively light weight of the car. Handling was one of the MGB's strong points. The three-bearing 1798cc B-Series engine produced 95bhp at 5400rpm and the engine was upgraded in October 1964 to a five-bearing crankshaft in an effort to improve reliability.
Acquired from Miss Carole Anne Heys in August 1990, this MGB was then to be treated to a ten-year restoration as a passion project for its new owner, Mr. Wilcox. Included in the history file is a photographic record of the restoration. Between the early and late ‘90’s, Mr. Wilcox spent a huge amount of time and money restoring the car, with many new parts and panels, receipts for which are all in the supplied history file. Mr. Wilcox was clever in that he knew where his strengths lay. He completed the bodywork and painted the car himself in his garage to a high standard but bought in professionals for the mechanicals and interior. The first of almost all of the supplied MoT test certificates is dated from May 2000, from which point Mr. Wilcox enjoyed 15 years of motoring with the car before selling it to respected MGB dealer Former Glory. They then sold the car on to a Vicar who also enjoyed the car until last year. His services must be more fun than most as included with the car is a sheet stating the ‘Ten commandments for the MG collector’, a favorite of the vendor’s being “thou shalt not let thy sons or daughters marry during the days of Goodwood or Brooklands historic meetings”!
The car is supplied with V5C registration document, MoT test certificate valid until March 2023, many receipts and photographic book of the restoration. Reported by the vendor to run and drive extremely well, this roadster offers the full British classic sports car experience at incredible value.
