In the late 2000s, the designers and engineers of Mercedes-Benz were given the unique opportunity to design and build their idea of the ultimate sports car. Given the opportunity, who among us could resist creating a modern version of the iconic 300SL 'Gullwing' Coupe and Roadster? The SLS was launched during the 2009 Frankfurt International Auto Show, but only as a coupe initially. Much like the 300SL Roadster, the SLS's Roadster would take a few more years to be launched.

AMG engineers were left with no small task to create an engine worthy of being fitted to the SLS, coming up with a fantastic dry-sump variant of their 'M159' engine to maintain a low hood line. Now with RENNtech R1 Performance Package, this engine can produce a staggering 604 hp and 514 lb-ft of torque, a gain of 41 hp and 35 lb-ft of torque. This autobahn stormer can be quickly and safely brought down from race track speeds with its AMG carbon ceramic braking system - a $12,500 option when new.

After five years of production earning numerous awards and accolades, the last 350 coupes and roadsters would mark the end of an era in their Final Edition trim. Upon approaching this SLS Roadster, the fabulous Fire Opal Red paintwork offers an exciting contrast to the numerous lightweight carbon fiber pieces used around this SLS, the all-carbon hood most notable among them. RENNtech had a hand in improving the aesthetics of the car with the addition of side skirts, a rear diffuser, both in carbon fiber. Complimenting the exterior trim are the optional 10-spoke forged alloy wheels in black, with a contrasting machined outer lip. The interior styling is classic modern Mercedes with a sporting touch, featuring seats with a quilted diamond pattern with silver seat belts stitching contrasting Black 'designo' Exclusive leather. The carbon fiber center console features a limitation number plaque to remind anyone of the rarity of this Final Edition example.
