The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren was introduced in 2004 as a modern Gran Turismo, seamlessly merging Mercedes-Benz's renowned elegance with McLaren's motorsport expertise. Inspired by the fabled 1955 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe, the design features a long, sculpted bonnet and a compact rear. The car's aerodynamic elements, such as its arrow-shaped nose and twin aerofoils, are a direct nod to McLaren's Formula One heritage, highlighting its high-performance capabilities.
Beneath the sleek exterior, the SLR McLaren houses a 5.4-liter V8 engine developed by Mercedes-AMG, unleashing a formidable 626 horsepower. This engine enabled the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 334 km/h. The AMG Speedshift R five-speed automatic transmission with multiple shift modes provided versatile performance, while the lightweight carbon fiber composite body ensured an optimal balance of strength and agility.
Finished in striking Crystal Galaxit Black Metallic with a luxurious Silver Arrow 300 SL Red semi-aniline leather interior, this super sports car completed its largely hand-built production at the McLaren Technology Center in Surrey, England, destined for the United States market. The car was equipped with the "XL" seats, enhancing comfort for both driver and passenger with their larger size. Additional features include dual-zone climate control, Bi-Xenon headlights, a distinctive instrument cluster with blue-faced gauges, and prominent McLaren logos. The center console was outfitted with controls for the airbrake and various driving modes, all within easy reach of the driver.
Today, this car is offered with just over 36,000 miles at the time of cataloging. It is completed with a selection of service records, a Mercedes-Benz battery tender, and a Mercedes-Benz first aid kit. As a result, this 2006 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Coupe remains in splendid condition. It is a wonderful representation of the best of the joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and McLaren in this super sports car.
