The fifth generation of the legendary SL series of two-door convertible sports cars made by Mercedes-Benz was known as the R230. It featured a fully retractable hardtop that was marketed as the Vario Roof; a first for the SL Class although it had been available on the smaller SLK model since 1997.

Originally registered 23rd May 2002 this SL500 cost £69,630 with options. Presented in Metallic Blue with Blackash wood trim and Black leather trim this example was specified with optional TV tuner, mobile phone (Nokia 6210), Bose sound system, Linguatronic, fire extinguisher with the total price of optional equipment being £2,480. Our vendor has had the car recently serviced in June of this year which is coupled to the servicing and maintenance records including book and invoices. The MoT is valid until August 2025. Described as in wonderful condition throughout, the styling of the car is akin to the SL55 with original and rare AMG vane SL55 alloys and SL55 exhaust providing that incredible sound coupled to the five litre engine, which is certainly no slouch, a wonderful sporty yet practical roadster, the SL500 is a classy summer classic that when the autumn arrives has the Vario Roof to transform this into a sleek coupe for all seasons.
