Beschreibung
Chassis No. WDBBA48D4KA097350
While the striking original Signal Red paint on this car surely catches the eye, it is the exceptionally preserved, original condition that truly astonishes. This spectacular 1989 Mercedes-Benz 560 SL offers an unrepeatable experience with only 122 original miles at the time of cataloging.
Still affixed to the passenger window is the original window sticker, indicating a $65,810 original list price and its initial delivery in Los Angeles. It was soon brought to Mercedes-Benz of San Francisco, however, and would be retained by that dealership's principal, Jules Barsotti, within his family until today.
Kept as a time-warp collector's item, and not driven, paint meter readings on file show that the SL today retains an exceptional coat of almost all original paintwork. Factory VIN stickers are present on all opening body panels. With its color-keyed removable hard top removed, the sleek roadster can easily be transformed by raising its folding Black fabric soft top. Inside, occupants are greeted by swaths of original, supple Cream Beige leather upholstery, complemented by matching velour carpeting in exemplary condition. The center console and dashboard feature burl wood trim with the switches for the automatic climate control, power windows, and the original Becker Electronic Grand Prix radio cassette player with an automatic antenna. The driver is greeted by a virtually unused black, leather wrapped steering wheel and a matching gear selector knob. The factory first aid kit is stowed behind the passenger compartment. Opening the trunk reveals the same velour carpeting used in the passenger compartment. The underfloor-mounted, Pirelli Cinturato spare tire and factory alloy wheel are present, together with an unused factory tool kit and jack.
The engine bay reveals a remarkable level of original detail and presentation likely not seen outside the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, including many original fittings, paint markings, labels, and yellow zinc plating throughout. The undercarriage continues with a similar unsullied condition commensurate with its low mileage.
Kept in static storage for the majority of its life in a San Francisco garage, in preparation for auction the 560 SL was serviced by R&M Automotive in July 2024. This work encompassed an oil and filter change and general lubrication service, a new battery, and new brake fluid. A complete detail brought the R107 SL back to a "showroom fresh" cosmetic condition.
As a result of its careful storage and preservation since new, this single family-owned example of Mercedes-Benz's iconic 560 SL offers a special chance to acquire what is surely one of the most original, uncirculated, lowest mileage examples still in existence today.
