Beschreibung
The timeless design of the Mercedes-Benz SL models has and always will leave a major impression on all those who lay eyes upon them. The beautiful W113 series, designed by Paul Bracq and his team, features a distinctive square body and removable hardtop, which gave the W113 its iconic “Pagoda” moniker. The 280 SL was the final iteration of the W113 series and remains one of the most popular and enjoyable Mercedes-Benz cars of modern times.
Delivered new to Lucien Ruby of Washington, D.C. in April 1971, through the factory’s European Delivery Program, this 280 SL is one of the last built before its successor, the R107 series, arrived. Complementing the traditional Mercedes-Benz Metallic Silver Grey (DB 180) exterior is an MB-Tex interior in black, which matches its canvas soft top. This well-documented 280 SL is offered with a voluminous file of original paperwork, which includes its purchase order, data card, German insurance certificate, and service records dating back to May 1971. Within the original Mercedes-Benz folder are German manuals and pamphlets for the Becker Europa radio, service directory, and original owner’s manuals. It is also presented with an original Mercedes-Benz tool kit and its California-issued blue and yellow license plates.
Never comprehensively restored, this final-production-year 280 SL was respectfully enjoyed by its first owner for over 43 years and is ready to bring joy to its next caretaker.
