Beschreibung
The Mercedes-Benz 230SL, known as the ‘Pagoda’ for its distinctive concave hardtop, was a groundbreaking sports car from Mercedes-Benz that blended luxury, performance, and style.
Introduced in 1963 as the successor to the 190SL, the 230SL was powered by a 2.3L Inline-Six engine with Bosch mechanical fuel injection, producing 150hp and giving a more sporty and spirited drive compared to its predecessor. 0-100km/h in 9 seconds and a top speed of around 200km/h made the 230SL more than capable in the day and continues to give owners lasting memories on the road. With disc brakes up front, it offered strong stopping power too.
Designed by Frenchman Paul Bracq, the ever recognisable ‘Pagoda’ factory hardtop added structural rigidity and a unique aesthetic, and the 230SL has remained one of the very few classic roadsters that look equally beautiful with its hardtop mounted.
This matching numbers 1964 230SL was imported from California to Europe in 2011 and stayed with the same enthusiast owner in Denmark until 2023. Repainted one year ago in the original colour code 050 G White, the car presents beautifully outside as well as inside. All chrome is near perfect with just the slightest patina.
The interior is completely original and unmolested and the original ‘as delivered’ combination of white over beige leather has luckily been kept intact to this day. The light beige leather interior is in very good condition. The painted part of the dashboard has a few light scratches here and there but nothing one would not expect from a car that has travelled 110.164 Miles since 1964. A beautiful Becker ‘Grand Prix’ radio is fitted.
Mechanically the 230SL is on the button. It has been cherished and serviced regularly by the previous long term owner and used for casual driving in the summer months only. Recent service include the fitting of a reconditioned rear axle with a slightly higher gearing to make the 230SL better suited for cruising at higher speeds. Together with the 4-speed manual gearbox, this 190SL offers a fantastic, more spirited experience on the road.
Since 2023, the Mercedes-Benz formed part of a collection of mainly German and Italian cars.
Registered on current Danish (EU) registration documents, the 230SL is a well kept, turn key example ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian.
