Engine No. 117.681.12.047982

In September 1985, four years after the debut of the SEC, Mercedes-Benz unveiled a revised range at the Frankfurt International Motor Show. The update featured a subtle facelift, including changes to the bumpers, side skirts, and wheels, but the main focus was on a restructured engine lineup. The 5.5-liter V8 engine was the standout addition, developed by lengthening the stroke of the 5.0-liter V8, delivering 272 horsepower, or 300 in a higher-compression version, making the 560 SEL and 560 SEC the most potent production Mercedes-Benz cars of their time.

Ordered new in Germany, this Signal Red (568) 1987 560 SEC was well-equipped with Becker Mexico radio, the rarely seen trip computer, and the high compression engine. The car was then reported to have been taken to AMG's workshop in Affalterbach shortly after its initial delivery. With clear intentions of wanting upgraded performance, the car was upgraded with a 6.0-liter "M117" with AMG "Tri-Y" headers, an AMG steering wheel, an AMG branded 300 kph speedometer, and a limited-slip differential.

The accompanying clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report shows that the car was imported to the United States by November 2000, where it was registered in Texas. The car was then exported back to Germany in August 2017 through the Long Beach, California port. It remained in Germany until it was once again reimported to the United States by the current owner in June 2024. Once back in the U.S., the car received a cosmetic restoration that involved a comprehensive detail: restoring the 17 inch OZ Racing three-piece AMG Aero III wheels and repairing an exhaust leak and the self-leveling rear suspension leveling rod for nearly $6,000. Now displaying just over 61,000 kilometers or 38,000 miles at the time of cataloging, this 1987 Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC AMG 6.0 remains a wonderful example of a potent pre-merger AMG.
