Before Mercedes-Benz fully acquired AMG and brought the Affalterbach-based company into its corporate fold, AMG was the ultimate playground for automotive enthusiasts. Originally, AMG's engineers-many of whom were former Mercedes-Benz employees-had the creative freedom to craft the high-performance cars of their dreams without the constraints of corporate oversight. Clients were offered a wide range of bespoke options, from minor upgrades like custom steering wheels and trunk spoilers to fully customized, high-performance vehicles, all engineered to AMG's exacting standards. The only real limits for customers were their imagination and the depth of their wallets.

Beginning as a well-equipped Japanese market E 320 Coupe in Blue Black Metallic (199), the car was inspected by AMG Classic and MKB Motoren Manufaktur and recognized as being upgraded in period to widebody specification by AMG Japan. This work included widening the front and rear fender, which now housed larger 17 inch AMG "Aero III" wheels. The front and rear bumpers were also replaced, along with the side skirts, and a trunk lid spoiler was added. Once the bodywork was completed, the car was refinished in white. Inside, the Black leather interior was upgraded with Recaro Ergomed seats and white-faced instruments with a 300 kph speedometer. The car has since been enhanced with a wood and leather steering wheel and a wood shift knob. Lastly, the car was upgraded with an AMG exhaust system to accent the sporting 3.2-liter "M104" inline-sixes.

The car was imported to the United States by its current owner directly from Japan, with the Japanese Export Certificate from 22 March 2023 verifying the mileage at the time of exportation. Today, this well-presented example is offered with just over 141,000 kilometers, or approximately 88,000 miles at the time of cataloging, and remains in largely original condition. This 1995 Mercedes-Benz E 320 Coupe AMG "Widebody" is complete with a selection of Japanese service invoices and remains a genuinely captivating pre-merger AMG.
