Beschreibung
Chassis 003105 is one of only 210 alloy-block, disc brake 300 SL Roadsters ever produced, making it the most desirable model variant. It was completed on the 9th July 1962 and as confirmed by its factory build sheet, the car was supplied new to the United States.
It is a matching number example that benefits from very few owners from new including over 40 years of ownership with instrumental Gull Wing Group members in California, which consisted of 20 years with a married couple who were founding members and 20 years with a former Group President. Over the years, the car became very well-known within the Gull Wing Group and was regularly taken on club events.
Upon our acquisition, we immediately entrusted it to model experts HK Engineering for a total body-off, nut and bolt restoration. The car was taken back to its bare bones and HK Engineering worked from the ground up to ensure every inch of the car was perfect and period correct, with millimetre correct panel gaps and arrow straight shut lines.
All of the mechanical components were completely overhauled with the engine and gearbox being opened and rebuilt to exacting and period correct standards to ensure optimal functioning. The car was finished in DB 40 (black), which is the most desired 300 SL colour today, over a brown leather interior and the end result is nothing short of perfection.
Following its world-class restoration, the car offers its new custodian a fantastic opportunity with which to partake in the very finest concours events or to simply just enjoy the open road. The car boasts an incredible amount of originality that’s not often seen on a late Roadster, including its original chassis, body, engine, front axles, rear axle and steering box. It comes complete with a factory hardtop, tool roll, handbooks and a dedicated history file.
It is one of the finest restored examples in existence.
