"The W124 is considered to be the last of the ‘million mile Mercedes’. Most engines and running gear were carried over from the previous model, but there were quite a few improvements. Multi-link independent rear suspension was a great improvement, and the whole car felt like a much more modern driving experience. The W124 had advanced crash protection, a bodyshell structure that crumpled progressively for example, while active safety was advanced thanks to the adoption of anti-lock braking as standard in the all the cars, being progressively introduced across the range.
