Présentée en 1951, la Mercedes 220 marque un retour de la marque vers le haut de gamme, au lendemain de la seconde guerre mondiale. En effet, sa mécanique six cylindres de 2.2L, alliée à un châssis rigoureux et un intérieur cossu en font une automobile performante et luxueuse.
L'exemplaire présenté est une rare version équipée d'un large toit ouvrant, tout en bénéficiant d'un chauffage et d'un équipement contre le froid renforcé optionnels. Il a été acquis par son précédent propriétaire en 1984, et ce dernier s'est alors attaché à une remise en état dont témoigne un dossier de factures. En 1986, le moteur a bénéficié d'une restauration complète, avec remplacement des pistons, des coussinets de ligne d'arbre, des soupapes et de leurs guides. Cette restauration ancienne et l'intérêt du modèle l'ont conduit à rejoindre la collection en 2016, puis, l'année suivante, la voiture a été entièrement révisée et les freins ont été remis en état. La carrosserie porte une sobre teinte noir brillant, et à l'intérieur, l'habitacle restauré est tendu de tissus. Le tableau de bord est complété d'un autoradio à lampes. La toile de capote, qui se plie jusqu'à découvrir les passagers arrière, est en bon état. Avec son état de présentation homogène et légèrement patiné, cette 220 constitue un jalon important dans l'histoire de la marque, tout en offrant fiabilité et performances… de quoi envisager de grandes balades et profiter de l'agréable toit découvrable sans avoir les inconvénients du cabriolet.

Introduced in 1951, the Mercedes 220 marks the brand's return into high-end cars following the aftermath of the Second World War. The 2.2L six-cylinder engine, combined with a rigorous chassis and posh interior, make this automobile efficient and luxurious.
This specific model is a rare version fitted with a large convertible top, while benefiting from an optional heating system and reinforced equipment against the cold. It was acquired by its previous owner in 1984 who then undertook a restoration, as evidenced by a file of invoices. The engine was subject to a complete restoration in 1986, including replacement of pistons, main shaft bearings, valves and their manuals. This older restoration and the interest of this model resulted in this car joining the collection in 2016 and the following year, it was completely restored and the brakes were repaired. The bodywork has a sober glossy black colour and the restored interior is covered with fabrics. The dashboard includes a car radio with lamps. The fabric rooftop is in good condition and folds to the rear of passengers at the back. With its homogenous and slightly patinated condition, this 220 is an important milestone in the brand's history, as well as offering reliability and performance… enough to plan great road trips and enjoy the pleasant convertible roof without having the inconvenience of the cabriolet
