- Eligible for Goodwood Revival

- Eligible for Tour Auto and Modena Cento Ore

The Maserati 3500GT was a very important car for the great Italian car manufacturer. It represented the first time that Maserati had gone toe-to-toe with the might of Ferrari, and away from the lightly disguised road racers it had built before, such as the stunning A6G/2000. The new 3500GT undoubtedly looked great, and it soon picked up a significant slice of the supercar market that Ferrari had previously had to itself throughout the 1950s.

Much of what lay under the 3500GT's skin was based on the brilliant A6G - such as the tubular steel chassis, the coil spring independent front suspension, and the live rear axle on semi-elliptic springs. The straight-six engine was a significant step-up though, developing more power than the A6G, although still very much related to the powerplant of the legendary 250F Grand Prix cars and 300S and 350S sports racers. It was extremely advanced for the time, boasting a twin-overhead camshaft design that had been reworked by chief engineer Guilio Alfieri to improve power delivery, whilst remaining docile enough for comfortable but swift road use. It was equipped with triple Weber carburettors and two spark-plugs per cylinder, producing an impressive 220 bhp.

Most of the coupés were made by Touring using aluminium panels and Superleggera principles, the case with this car. Thus the car was not only powerful but lightweight, and by 1959 was equipped front disc brakes too, ensuring that the 3500GT now had all the ingredients of the great Italian GTs.

Chassis 101-590 was supplied new in September 1959 to Sig. Gustavo Perico of Villa D’Atta through the dealer Vendita Diretta – of course equipped with the new disc brake option. In recent years, and while in the ownership of very famous Italian family, the car was beautifully restored, ensuring that the body and chassis were in beautiful condition while also renovating the interior, and rebuilding the fast-road engine. It has also been sympathetically prepared for race and rally use and would be a perfect car for the Tour Auto and Modena Cento Ore. The car is also fully matching numbers and has been thoroughly checked and fully authenticated by Maserati Classiche.

A wonderful and very rare competition car to enjoy on road and track.
