Beschreibung
In February 1922, Henry Leland sold Lincoln to Henry Ford, who immediately positioned the luxury manufacturer as the flagship of Ford Motor Company. Mr. Ford’s son, Edsel, became Lincoln’s president that June and his fine, cultivated design sense was most apparent after 1925, when the Leland-era Lincoln bodies were phased out in favor of a new, European-influenced theme.
Among Lincoln’s roster of distinguished coachbuilders during the era, Locke & Company primarily provided open bodies, including sporting roadsters and majestic phaetons. This outstanding Model L Sport Phaeton is one of only 88 built with aluminum Type 163 A coachwork by Locke. The Lincoln was formerly owned by noted collector Mark Smith, who prized early Fords and Lincolns in original condition. Smith sold the Sport Phaeton to the current owner, a friend who has the same deep passion for original Fords and Lincolns. Beautifully preserved and believed by the consignor to retain much of its original paint, upholstery, plating, and mechanicals, this captivating survivor is finished with a dark brown body and black fenders, aprons, and wheels. The car features a tan canvas folding top and cover, wonderfully patinated leather upholstery, and its canvas summer seat covers. Accessories include an original Greyhound radiator mascot and and correct twin side-mounted spares with correct original mirrors, plus detachable “Gypsy” front-side curtains. Driven regularly until placed into storage about 10 years ago, this 1929 Lincoln Model L benefits from a recent service and comes with an original owner’s manual and tool set, plus a newly installed set of six period-style tires.
