History of the 1965 Lincoln Continental
For 1965 Lincoln further enhanced the styling of the Continental and many consider the model to be the final year for the classic “Lincoln look.” The front end now featured a shorter flat grill while the parking lights and turn signals were moved from the bumpers to the end caps of the fenders in a wraparound appearance. Performance was derived for the proven Ford MEL 430ci V8 that was good for 320hp and propelled the Continental from 0-60 in 10 seconds, despite its 5,000lb curb weight. Braking was additionally improved with the addition of Kelsey-Hayes disc brakes up front. These performance and stylish updates resonated with buyers and helped to push 1965 Lincoln sales past the 40,000 figure for the first time in many years. However only 3,356 Continental Convertibles were assembled for 1965, making the model highly sought after in convertible form. Today the 1965 Continental is a classic of timeless style, performance, and luxury that has an enduring appeal with both enthusiasts and collectors alike.
