Imagine a time before the term SUV was around. Early ‘60’s, if you wanted to get somewhere a normal car cannot take you and a Willy’s Jeep is not your thing. Then the next best thing is a Land Rover. As an aside the Willy’s Jeep did stand as template for the similar first Land Rovers.
It was Rover who introduced the car in 1948, initially built in England, soon to be built under licence in countries such as Australia, Spain, Belgium and Germany. The introduction happened on the 30th April 1948 at the Amsterdam International Motor Show (Auto RAI). In 1958 the retroflectivity named series I was succeeded by the series II to be followed up by the series IIA in 1961.

Our Landy was registered on the 3rd January 1964 making it a relatively early series IIA with the headlights situated inside the wheel arches. A year later that look would change. This car received a Dutch registration in 2013 with the owner keeping the car until 2022. The 88 looks nice and fresh, although we need not explain it has built up a pleasing amount of patina over the years.
Bearing in mind most Land Rovers live a heavy and fulfilling life, we must say this 88 looks remarkably well-kept. This LaRo has definitely been put to good use and has not languished in a corner of someones collection. Let’s be honest a well-used Land Rover adds heaps of character. Clearly the outside is not in concourse condition, the same goes for the inside where the drivers seat shows signs of wear. The steel bodywork is neat though.

This 88 inch long wheelbase Land Rover drives really well. This English off-roader is ready to tackle a new adventure on unhardened forest tracks.
This user ready Land Rover is available for a very friendly price.
