- Great design by Zagato
Revealed in 1963, the Lancia Fulvia is an ambitious and innovative car in many ways. Indeed, the transmission to the front wheels and the original architecture of the engine (4 cylinders in a very closed V shape and a cylinder head) stand out from the mass of the much less original middle-class sedans. As early as 1965, two coupes make their appearance: the "Fulvia Coupé", a model developed by the factory, but also the exclusive "Fulvia Sport" due to Ercole Spada, a young designer who signed a number of remarkable designs while working for Zagato. This collaboration between the manufacturer and the bodybuilder is in line with previous productions, based on the Appia, Flavia or Flaminia, which are both unusual and aerodynamic. The initial displacement of 1200 cm3 is quickly increased to 1300 and the car is equipped with a 5-speed gearbox. The power-to-weight ratio is favourable with 87 hp for only 960 kg. Observers praise the Fulvia's driving pleasure and handling, enhanced by the lightness of the "Sport" model, whose bodywork is made of aluminium, as is customary with the great body builder Zagato, who favours the use of this noble material for his four-wheeled works of art.
The Fulvia Zagato presented in these pages is a 1300 model, first released in November 1969. Sold new in France, this one is ordered white with a very elegant red skaï interior. It has only known three owners, the first one when it is registered 112 PZ 28, then it is sold to an amateur from Yvelines and changes registration in the early 80's: 7878 NK 78, and was always maintained by specialists of the brand. Mr V, the current owner bought it in 2005 and will not stop enjoying his Lancia. Having no fear of taking his car for long journeys in Europe itself. In 2007 the engine is completely rebuilt, even though the car has a little more than 131,000 km from the original, and more recently the carburettors have been adjusted and serviced. The paintwork, redone a few years ago, is very bright. The red skai interior is original and has an inimitable patina. The test drive will reveal a car with a very healthy chassis, the engine is voluntary, the gearbox works perfectly and the brakes are efficient. This is an interesting opportunity to acquire a car that combines so well a beautiful and sophisticated mechanics with a designer dress.
