Introduced in 1979, the Lancia Delta was a compact saloon designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. It met with immediate success and was elected European Car of the Year by the press in 1980. The standard version was followed by the GT, then the HF Turbo, the S4 (intended for homologation as a Group B rally car), the HF 4WD (the first Lancia Integrale to win the World Rally Championship in 1987), the HF Integrale (which in turn claimed the world title in 1988) and finally, in 1989, the HF Integrale 16v. In 1991, the Italian manufacturer presented the first evolution of its Delta HF Integrale, which would win an eleventh World Rally Championship title the following year. The ultimate development of the Lancia Delta Integrale, the Evoluzione 2, appeared in 1993; the power produced by its 4-cylinder in-line Lampredi engine increased to 215 bhp, with maximum torque of 236 lb. ft delivered at just 2500 rpm.
The model we are presenting is a Delta HF Integrale 8 valves which was put into service on 21 January 1988. Wishing to have a car to participate in historical rallies with his daughter, his owner acquired it at the end of 2016. His choice was made for this car, which had a new engine and a rally configuration with a 6-point roll bar, bucket seats, harnesses, etc. To gain in flexibility and reliability, he decided to have the engine prepared by the specialist Storic Italia. Thus the cylinder head will be dismantled to receive new camshafts and more suitable springs. The turbo receives a forged alloy turbine and a new internal stop to better withstand rally conditions. The engine power then increases to about 210 hp. The car also receives Michelin Total Performance replica speedline rims, an E-trip for regularity races and a complete livery in Alitalia colors that gives it a fantastic look. The handling of the car is simply excellent and the performance is interesting. The depressurization of the turbo after each gear change plunges you into a very sporty atmosphere. Taking the wheel was a fabulous experience, it's a real crush. With such an attractive estimate, it would be ridiculous not to take a chance.
This car will be sold by auction by AGUTTES Auction House, in Lyon, France, on November the 9th, 2019.
