To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION WITHOUT RESERVE at RM Sothebys' Paris event, 4 - 5 February 2025.
- One of 225 examples of the Islero; one of 100 in S form
- Powered by a 3.9-litre V-12 coupled to a synchromesh five-speed manual gearbox
- Italian-market car in its original Bronzo Scuro Metallizzato over Senape leather
Successor to the 400 GT, the Islero’s angular coachwork, while controversial in period, has benefitted from the passage of time. A design developed by Carlo Marrazzi, formerly of Touring, the Islero’s angularity facilitated improved interior space, refinement, and comfort. It retained its predecessor’s 3.9-litre V-12 engine fitted with six Weber carburettors to produce 330 horsepower.
Arriving in 1969, the Islero S upped power to an impressive 355 horsepower, and changes included six engine cooling vents on both front wings, flared wings, larger brakes, revised rear suspension, and an improved dashboard and interior. Just 225 Isleros were ever made, with a mere 100 of those being desirable later S cars.
This S is finished in its correct original Bronzo Scuro Metallizzato over a Senape interior. It was originally delivered to Milan in April 1969, and benefitted from a restoration in 2011 including a trim and wheel refresh, new carpets and headliner. Between 1976 and 2011 it resided in the United States, and was at some stage painted red, before being reverted.
Accompanied by correspondence, inspection papers, and its registration documentation, this S is noted to present in its original specification and therefore will prove a sought-after vehicle for both drivers and marque collectors.
