Beschreibung

Chassis No. ZA9DE01A0YLA12293

Engine No. 0005

Transmission No. 1390

Differential No. 003

The 1990 debut of the Diablo marked a continuation of Lamborghini's commitment to raw performance. Save for some slightly rounded edges courtesy of temporary American ownership, the unbridled Diablo was as hardcore as the Countach it replaced. However, the model's continued evolution under Audi ownership after 1998 saw the Raging Bull mature into a more refined, yet no less staggering supercar.

The final VT 6.0 model introduced in 2000 showcased this evolution through its revised front facia, modernized "telephone dial" 18-inch OZ wheels, and Lamborghini's most powerful V12 engine ever at the time of its release. Achieved through a 4-mm longer stroke, a lightweight crankshaft, titanium connecting rods, and an upgraded 32-bit engine management system, the 6.0-liter Bizzarrini V12 now generated 542 horsepower, surpassing its predecessor by 20 horsepower, while torque increased to 620 nm. As before, this monstrous output was channeled through the VT's Viscous Traction four-wheel drive system, with Car and Driver noting the Diablo's remarkable balance of power and control: "What amazes us most about the Diablo are its benign handling characteristics. We wouldn't call it nimble, or tossable, but it is immensely stable and forgiving."

Where Audi's stewardship truly paid dividends was in the cabin, bringing refined seating with adjustable support, an automatic climate control system, and modern conveniences like storage pockets, map lights, and even coat hooks-amenities previously unthinkable in a Lamborghini. This final and most evolved model has secured its place among collectors as both the definitive Diablo variant and one of the most significant modern Lamborghinis, bridging the raw drama of the company's independent era with the refined engineering that would define its future under German ownership.

This remarkable Diablo 6.0, chassis number 12293, was the very first of just 343 examples of the model produced by Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. over a two-year period. Correspondence with Lamborghini Polo Storico as well as its "Certificate of Vehicle Original Configuration" dated July 2016 confirm this fact, additionally verifying that the car was originally finished as it presents today in the stunning shade of Giallo Orion (yellow). The Certificate also records its original engine number (0005), transmission number (1390), and differential number (003), all of which match those present on the car today.

As the first example of its type, chassis 12293 was first registered on 21 March 2000 and used as a press car by Lamborghini, appearing in period road tests promotional images before selling into private ownership. Pubblico Registro Automobilistico (PRA) records confirm that the car was originally registered to Automobili Lamborghini in Sant'Agata with license plate number "BK100YE."

German registration papers on file show that the Diablo was then registered on 26 July 2001 to its first and only private owners, transferring to single-family ownership in Eigeltingen-Honstetten, Germany, with license plate "KN-MB 11." Invoices on file chronicle regular and thorough maintenance invoiced to this family from 2010-2023, including numerous major services at specialized Lamborghini service centers-primarily Gohm GmbH Motorworld and Singen Lamborghini. Highlights include an engine-out service in 2010, a major engine overhaul in July 2015 conducted by specialist shop Motocenter G.Reißenweber at a total cost exceeding 51,000€, a third engine-out service in 2017 encompassing a clutch cylinder, coil kit, and various seals, and the repair and sealing of the transmission oil pump housing in 2018. Most recently, in October 2023 at Lamborghini Singen, the Diablo received all new fluids and filters at a cost of 3,095.59€, followed by a positive condition report conducted by Singen in September 2024.

Now presented with 37,757 kilometers, the Diablo is every bit as thrilling today as when it was new, and continues to gain appreciation and interest from collectors as one of the last truly analog and unbridled Italian supercars from a bygone era. This example, the first 6.0-liter Diablo VT to leave the gates of Sant'Agata, is even more collectible still thanks to the regular service rendered by its only private owners from new. With a well-documented history and spectacular original condition inside and out, it is most certainly worthy of serious consideration and would be an important piece in any supercar collection.
