The Jaguar XK 120 debuted at the 1948 Earls Court Motor Show, instantly captivating audiences with its stunning design and exceptional performance. Powered by the 3.4-liter XK engine, the Roadster delivered 160 horsepower and a top speed of 120 mph, setting new standards for British sports cars. The world-famous twin-cam engine featured an aluminum alloy head and seven main bearings, powering all of Jaguar's cars for years, including five Le Mans-winning models in the 1950s.

The XK 120 marked a rapid return to the sports car market after the SS 100. Record-breaking speed runs in Belgium and France, including an average of 132.6 mph in Belgium and over 130 mph for an hour in France, solidified the XK 120's reputation and led to its full production. For those seeking greater performance, an optional Special Equipment "SE" package was made available and included wire wheels, a revised suspension, a dual exhaust system, and a modified engine producing 180 horsepower–20 additional over the standard model.

As recorded on its Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, this 1953 XK 120 was completed on 9 January 1953 in potent "SE" specification, finished in Black with a Biscuit and Red interior, and slated for U.S. delivery. The first owner was no doubt eager to take delivery of the left-hand-drive open two-seater as it made its way to the United States. Perhaps as a result of this eagerness, the car apparently remained with its original owner until 2012, when it proudly joined The Academy of Art University Collection.

Before entering the collection, the car was restored by its long-term caretaker, who smartly opted for the elegant and original color combination. At the same time, the SE specification XK engine and the remaining mechanical systems were overhauled.

This marvelous 1953 Jaguar XK 120 SE Roadster remains in splendid condition today. With the added assurance of this being an original matching numbers "SE," this striking Black XK 120 proudly carries on the tradition of this most elegant of early 1950s British sports cars.
