The Jaguar E-Type was ten years old and in need of a new lease of life. History repeated itself when Jaguar debuted its robust V12 engine in a sportscar instead of the saloon for which it was designed. Despite its sportscar heritage, Jaguar depended on saloon vehicles for its survival and had developed the twelve-cylinder engine to power them with sufficient torque and refinement. Larger and softer in nature and with weight redistributed 53/47, the Series III had lost the wilds of its youth but gained the long-legged touring profile to which it was arguably better suited. Robert Bell in Motor was quoted as saying at the time that 'all we expected to try was a new engine, but what in fact we drove was a new car. Not a yowling, aggressive Ferrari-like machine with which, perhaps, most people associate a V12 engine, but a very smooth, quiet and refined grand touring sports car'.

This classic 1972 Jaguar E-Type Series III V12 automatic roadster, is finished in the iconic colour scheme, from new, of British Racing Green with contrasting tan leather trim with a black soft top and it also comes with its factory (detachable) hardtop finished in the matching British Racing Green which was also supplied when the car was new, along with chrome wire wheels. This fabulous Jaguar has only had four previous owners from new, the last owner for nine years (from 2015 until 2024) and the owner prior to that owned the car from 1980 until 2015 (35 years). When the last owner purchased the car in 2015, he had it inspected by Miles Classic of Huddersfield, which the report states 'what a good sound original car it was but the paint had faded slightly due it being 43 years old at that time'. So having purchased it, he then asked Miles Classic to set about giving the car a bare metal respray and to completely recommission the car with many upgrades which cost in excess of £40,000. The car comes with paperwork and a photographic history dating back to 1974, with all old MoT's and copies of old log books and a letter from the owner in 1980 that confirms the ownership and mileage at that time. This is a very nice and well sorted example which we are told is an absolute pleasure to drive. Consigned by James Good.
