The Jaguar E-Type manufactured between 1961 and 1974 has a very strong combination of good looks, high performance, and competitive pricing which established the marque as an icon of 1960s motoring. A great success for Jaguar, over seventy thousand E-Types were sold during its lifespan. Jaguar introduced an improved E-Type in 1964, the E-type 4.2 litre. This new 4.2 litre Coupe had a redesigned XK engine which delivered more torque than the original 3.8 unit, mid-range power was also improved. To complement the more refined engine a new gearbox arrived to replace the crude "Moss Box” type used on earlier cars. Further upgrades over the earlier 3.8 litre models included more comfortable seats, improved brakes and electrical systems.
