To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION at RM Sothebys' Shift Online: Europe and Middle East event, 23 - 28 April 2025.
Please note this vehicle is titled as 1963.

Built in December 1962, this right-hand-drive E-Type was originally delivered via Cycle & Carriage in Singapore. According to the accompanying copy of the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate issued in October 2013, chassis number 861049 was configured in Red over Cream hide. While the Jaguar’s earlier history is not known, it was registered as “XJI 787” in the United Kingdom from 2000. Painted dark green, the car spent time near Brighton and, from 2011, in the “Motorsport Valley” region around Silverstone, appearing at the Sunday Scramble at Bicester Heritage.

Acquired by a new owner in October 2017, the Jaguar was subsequently transformed into an FIA Appendix K (period-correct specification) historic race car by E-Type specialist Valley Motorsport of Shropshire. Presented in Old English White over Black trim, a competition debut for “XJI 787” came in the Castle Combe Autumn Classic national meeting in October 2020. Contesting the Norman Dewis Trophy for pre-1966 Jaguars, a race named in honour of the marque’s legendary test driver, accomplished GT and historic racer Alex Buncombe converted pole position into an utterly dominant maiden victory.

The E-Type returned to the track for the Silverstone Classic in the summer of 2021. In the 60th Anniversary E-Type Challenge bout, Buncombe claimed a class win in 13th. The car was then invited to enter September’s Goodwood Revival. In the Friday twilight Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy race for pre-1963 closed-cockpit GT cars—an event often credited with assembling the most valuable entry list in club motorsport—Buncombe was partnered by long-time friend Jenson Button. The 2009 Formula 1 World Champion, needing to adapt to the quirks of old-timer racing for his Goodwood Motor Circuit debut, qualified 19th on the star-studded grid. But he and Buncombe brilliantly battled back to a fine 7th place as the third-ranked E-Type.

Later purchased by the consigning owner, the E-Type has been maintained by CKL Developments of East Sussex. Three further races have followed, including a return to the Silverstone Classic in 2022. Complemented by an FIA Historic Technical Passport (available to view on file) issued in 2020, the Jaguar’s 3,868-cc straight-six has been certified in accordance with Motorsport UK guidelines. The car is also road legal in the UK.

A proven competitive race car that has been driven by an F1 World Champion, this Jaguar E-Type is eligible for some of the most prestigious meetings on the historic racing calendar.
