Beschreibung
For the first time in forty-two years, this 1970, series I Iso Grifo Targa is available for sale. One of only fourteen Grifo Targas ever built - designed by Bertone and featuring the stunning removable roof, the reliable 300hp Chevy 327 V8, and the coveted ZF 5 speed transmission. Specially built to customer specifications at Pavesi in Italy, the car rolled off the assembly line on May 21st 1970 in this exact configuration with the only major change being a repaint in a medium blue metallic from the original Argento (Silver) Auteuil metalizzato.
The exterior was repainted to this blue metallic at the time of its partial restoration in the 1980s to give it more contrast with the light grey interior. All other soecifications were left like when the car was delivered and no changes of components have been made during any ownership. The complete inside, including door jambs, hood and trunk compartment are as factory delivered and in excellent condition.
The body panels on the car are straight and undamaged. All exterior trim on the car is fully original, showing the fine treatment of care during its ownership. All glass is original, has no cracks, bulls’ eyes, or significant scratches. The windshield shows no delamination or wiper scratches. All the seals are fully functional. Doors open and close without issue, the same goes for the hood and deck lid.
INTERIOR:
The car’s interior was redone in the early 2000s by former Iso employees in the original factory style. It features reupholstered seats in light gray leather, showing no heavy signs of wear at this time. Also no overtly visible wear on any interior parts. The light gray carpets show extremely light wear, if any, and all other cloth upholstery is like new as are the headliner and door panels. The dash pad shows no signs of being worn and no visible additions/deletions have been made.
The original instruments are the factory Iso Grifo ones and are in prime working condition. All options and lighting are functional and the under-dash wiring shows clean work without any messy additions. It comes with a Iso factory original “Personal” steering wheel. The trunk area is tidy and holds a factory correct Borrani spare wheel with a Pirelli Cinturato tire.
DRIVE TRAIN:
The car has been fully serviced within the past months by Iso specialist Maurice Mentens in Los Angeles. Historically it has only been trailered to car shows and driven rarely on public roadways since it's importation to California.
The engine bay is stock and holds the original spec Corvette motor (stamped *1419* V0409HY) and accessories. The motor is a stock 300hp, 5354cc Corvette 327 V8 engine as specified on the Iso build sheet. It has since been rebuilt in preparation for sale and has recently reached it's break-in mileage. The casting number and pad stamp are correct for both engine and build series for the car; matching all the specs on the Iso build sheet.
It comes with Corvette specific (300hp) exhaust manifolds which dump into an original style dual exhaust system (upgraded to stainless) with original hangers in very good condition. The motor shows no leaks, no signs of any previous overheating, and is well sorted. It features the rare original magnesium Grifo oil pan and accessories in excellent working condition.
The ZF 5-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly and shows no leaks. The standard ATE power brakes with T51 booster have been well-maintained and recently serviced. The manual steering similarly shows no signs of play. The suspension is stock with a clean underside, with all work previously performed on the vehicle displaying quality craftsmanship. The original 15X7J Borrani (RW 4100) wire wheels show no curb rash and have been recently detailed. They feature like-new BF Goodrich Comp T/A 235/60VR15 front and 255/60VR15 rear tires.
OPTIONS / MODIFICATIONS:
The car presents as optioned from the factory in 1970. No body parts have been swapped out and no significant modifications have been made.
