The 1952 Hudson Wasp replaced the Super Custom as a more affordable counterpart to the Hornet. Built on a 119-inch wheelbase with Hudson's "Monobilt" step-down chassis, it offered a low center of gravity, sturdy structure, and enhanced safety. Available in two- and four-door versions, it featured upscale details like stainless-steel trim, an illuminated grille medallion, and a carpeted trunk. The interior boasted tan cord upholstery with striped accents. Its upgraded engine, with 30 more cubic inches and 15 extra horsepower than the Pacemaker, delivered a spirited ride. For those seeking even more performance, available from Hudson was the optional Twin-H-Power carburetor system, which enhanced performance by up to 20 percent. Drawing on Hornet's design, the Wasp gained popularity, including fans like Steve McQueen.

This remarkable first-edition Hudson Wasp is a well-preserved example, having evidently been retained by a single family for over 40 years until 2012. Purchasing the car in the early 1960s from the original owner, a Mr. Howell of Columbus, Ohio, acquired the car with the odometer showing under 16,000 miles. Apart from the addition of 1954-style hubcaps, the car remained largely stock. In the late 1990s, he had it repainted in the factory color of Boston Ivory. Mr. Howell passed away shortly afterward and left the car to his son, Jonathan, who passed it to Brent Bartley in 2009. Impressed by the Wasp's low mileage and original upholstery, which was still in outstanding condition, the car underwent mechanical freshening, including a fuel system flush and rebuilding of the exhaust, brakes, and radiator. Additionally, much of the trim was re-chromed.

Acquired by the Academy of Art University Collection in 2012, the car now shows a scant 18,723 miles at the time of cataloging. It retains a largely undisturbed interior, including its original carpets, headliner, and upholstery, and features the rare factory-optional Twin-H-Power carburetor system, which enhances performance by up to 20 percent. Complete with original documentation, this Wasp is a prized example of Hudson's high-performance engineering.
