Chassis No. 02

Honda Performance Development's (HPD) latest LMP1 and LMP2 challengers for the 2012 season were an evolution of the bespoke, Acura-designed chassis of its predecessor, the 2009 AMR-02. As such, the new AMR-03 prototype similarly utilized a Courage 70-series carbon fiber monocoque, albeit with altered front suspension uprights to allow for new mandatory openings atop the front wheel wells. The ARX-03 was offered in two variants: the 03a, powered by a 3.4-liter naturally aspirated V8 and intended for LMP1 competition, and the 03b, powered by a turbocharged 2.8-liter V6 classed in LMP2. The rest of the platform was shared by the two variants, with power being sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential manual transmission co-developed by HPD and Hewland, all four wheels supported by double-wishbones and pushrods, stopping power from six-piston carbon ceramic disc brakes, and a weight of approximately 900 kilograms.

Five teams campaigned the new ARX-03 prototype across both LMP1 and LMP2 at the 12 Hours of Sebring, the season opener for both the 2012 American Le Mans Series (ALMS) season and the then-newly formed FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). Among them was Level 5 Motorsports, which campaigned two brand new HPD ARX-03b's for the full season including the car offered here, chassis number 02. Wearing start number 55, the LMP2-spec prototype was piloted by Scott Tucker, João Barbosa, and Christophe Bouchut to first in class and fourth overall at Sebring. The team would go on to claim class victories in seven of the remaining nine rounds of the season, with chassis number 02 winning its class at Long Beach, Lime Rock, Mid-Ohio, Baltimore, and VIR, and finishing on the podium at Mosport, Road America, and the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. This remarkable string of victories saw Level 5 Motorsports handily win the LMP2 Teams' Championship over its closest rival Conquest Endurance by 47 points, with Scott Tucker and Christophe Bouchut also claiming the LMP2 Drivers Championship. Chassis number 02 kicked off its 2013 ALMS campaign right where it left off, once again winning its class in the season-opener at Sebring, followed by victories at Laguna Seca, Lime Rock, Mosport, and Road America on its way to a second consecutive LMP2 Teams' Championship and Drivers' Championship for Scott Tucker.

Since its retirement from LMP2 racing, this front-running prototype has been uprated to ARX-003a specification by Scott Sport in Sutton Coldfield, England, which included fitting a zero-mile, LMP1-specification HPD 3.4-liter naturally aspirated V8 mated to a freshly rebuilt Hewland six-speed manual transmission. The work also saw chassis 02 receive upgraded ARX-03a-specification bodywork, suspension, and Multimatic dampers, complete with a fresh livery paying homage to the Muscle Milk Pickett Racing HPD ARX-03a, car number 06, which claimed the LMP1 Drivers' and Teams' Championships in 2012 and 2013. Invoices on file document the £245,156 (approximately $312,792) spent on restoration work and race team support under current ownership since November 2022.

Today, this multiple Championship-winning HPD ARX-03 in its current LMP1 specification would make a highly competitive entrant into contemporary historic endurance racing at any number of prestigious historic racing events. These include Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) in the United States and Masters Endurance Legends in Europe. Additionally, chassis 02 is currently entered to take part in the Masters Historic Racing-sanctioned support races to the 2024 Formula One United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas, providing its next owner the opportunity to be on the same race bill as Verstappen, Leclerc, Norris and Hamilton in the very near future. It is sold with a spares package which will be made available to the winning bidder with shipping to be paid for by the buyer from its location in Sutton Coldfield, England.
