Comprised of a team of dedicated enthusiasts at Ford, the Special Vehicle Team (SVT), their goal was simple-create the ultimate iteration of the Mustang. At the heart of this Cobra R is the powerful 5.8-liter high-output V8 that draws its inspiration from the Ford GT40s that proved victorious at the fabled 24 Hours Le Mans. The redesigned cylinder heads proved to be the most volumetrically efficient that Ford produced at the time, allowing for a stout rating of 300 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque. This is combined with a five-speed manual transmission complimented by a limited-slip differential. Large, 17x9 inch aluminum alloy wheels house impressive 13 front and 11.65-inch rear vented disc brakes with Bosch ABS control to provide sure-footed braking power. Suspension performance is improved with heavy-duty adjust front and rear shocks, upgraded springs, improved front stabilizer bar, and a front strut tower brace. To ensure optimal running conditions even during demanding situations, the car utilizes a heavy-duty aluminum radiator, an auxiliary engine oil cooler, and a heavy-duty power steering cooler. Additionally, the cars featured a 20-gallon fuel cell with a high-capacity pump. Not for the faint of heart, the "R" Competition Option group costs nearly $14,000 when new and increases the standard vehicle price by an impressive 55-percent.

This SVT Cobra R was built on 1 March 1995 as the 193rd of just 250 limited examples. Finished in Crystal White Clearcoat Metallic over a Saddle cloth interior, the car has remained a highly original example in virtually new condition, having covered just 1,973 miles at the time of cataloging. Complete with a clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report, SVT Certificate of Authenticity, and Marti Report, this car is undoubtedly impressive as a time capsule example.
