The Ford Mustang Boss 302 is one of the most popular Mustangs out there. The Boss trim was Ford's way of competing against Chryslers and GM cars in the burgeoning muscle car market of the 1960s and 1970s. The Boss 302 was initially presented in 1969 and a year later the model you see here in the pictures was presented. The Boss 302 has a special place in the hearts of car enthusiasts.
The Boss 302 in street trim was a version created by the cars Ford raced in the Trans-American Championship. A class for touring cars of various origins. The first season, 1966, was won by Alfa Romeo with the GTA. Ford presented the Boss 302 as the successor to the Shelby GT350 and it received a specially prepared 5-liter V8 with a short ratio gearbox and a better suspension.
The engine was specially developed to handle high revs. The version that was raced could handle about 8,000 revolutions per minute. With the street variant, things were cut off earlier and the spectacle stopped at about 6,100 rpm. Despite that, the V8 managed to squeeze out almost 300 hp, the racing version even 470!
In 1970 the title was achieved with the Boss 302 and thus achieved the goal. The principle of 'Win on Sunday, sell on Monday' turned out to work great with the Mustang.
Most people who ordered a Mustang on Monday, however, did not go for the very exclusive and expensive Boss 302, of which 8,641 were produced. Only a handful also got the close-ratio four-speed gearbox and the unique Drag Pack rear axle with oil cooler. So this blood orange 302 does.
To make long journeys more enjoyable, a five-speed gearbox has been installed and larger brakes from Baer have been installed to make the car stop better. As a result, the original 15” wheels no longer fit and the last owner has opted for tasteful replicas in 17”. The same model, only slightly larger. It looks great on the Boss!
The Boss 302 is in fantastic condition and has been perfectly maintained. Everything that should be present with the car is present and with this Mustang it is a matter of getting in and driving. With a 'big smile' from ear to ear, we can assure you!
