The ever-popular Ford Model A was outfitted with a wide variety of body styles, including this practical Station Wagon. With the increasing surge in rail travel, the desire to have an ever-practical vehicle motorized vehicle for transporting passengers and luggage from the train to their final destination. With intricate joinery work needed to complete the bodywork, the final construction was handled by several firms, including J.T. Cantrell, Ypsilanti Furniture, and Hercules.
This Station Wagon has been a long-standing member of the collection, being acquired in late 2003. Restored under prior ownership, the quality of the restoration has been preserved remarkably well. It is believed that most of the wood was replaced during the restoration and fitted with new canvas side curtains for all-weather protection. The black painted wire wheels wear era-appropriate BFGoodrich Silvertown 5.00-19 4-Ply tires. It has been outfitted with a radiator thermometer, a fender-mounted spare wheel, cowl-mounted driving lights, a left-hand side view mirror, and a windshield wiper for the driver. With the Waltham speedometer showing just under 1,000 miles since the competition of its restoration, this three-row 1930 Ford Model A "Woodie" Station Wagon is an attractive example of a beautifully crafted utilitarian workhorse.
