In a bold move that stands out as one of the most daring initiatives by a major American automaker in recent history, Ford reintroduced the iconic GT40 concept in the early 2000s, creating a thoroughly modern supercar meticulously crafted to serve as the embodiment of "The Pace Car for an Entire Company." Evolving into the Ford GT, this new supercar retained an exceptional fidelity to the external design of the original Le Mans-winning titan, marking a rare instance where an automaker delivered precisely what the public desired-a no-compromise performance machine engineered to exhilarate both on the road and the track.
In the spirit of this commitment, Ford elevated its already impressive 550 horsepower, V8-powered GT for the 2006 model year, introducing the coveted Heritage Paint Livery package. Internally designated as production code "GL PO," this $13,000 option adorned the GT with the iconic Heritage Blue and Heritage Orange paint, paying homage to the colors of the triumphant John Wyer Automotive/Gulf Oil-sponsored GT40s that secured victory at Le Mans in 1968 and 1969. White roundels were meticulously applied to the GT's flanks, hood, and decklid, resulting in a timeless tribute to the original Le Mans-winning GT40, evoking the visual and tactile presence of a vintage Le Mans champion on the streets.
Exclusively available for the GT's second and final production year, the Heritage Edition liveried cars became a one-year exclusive option, limiting their production to a highly collectible 343 examples which were promptly snatched up by some of the world's largest Blue Oval collectors. From its introduction, the Heritage GT emerged as the pinnacle choice, maintaining its status as the most sought-after variant, particularly with the advent of the second-generation Ford GT.
Supported by the impressive level of documentation, this single-owner example was completed in April of 2006 before being delivered through Village Ford of Dearborn, Michigan where it was ordered by an experienced collector in the GT's home state of Michigan. In addition to the original Ford GT Order Form and correspondence from during the buying process, a certificate from Ford on file indicates this example as number 180 of 383 Ford GTs finished in Heritage Blue. Equipped with optional BBS Lightweight Forged Aluminum Wheels, other desirable appointments such as carbon fiber bucket seats, Brembo brakes, and a Helical limited-slip differential were all standard on the Ford GT.
Well-preserved by a respected collector in the vehicle's home state of Michigan, this single-owner 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition and the 2019 Heritage Edition offered without reserve, are from the same private collection. Currently displaying just 1,238 miles at the time of cataloging, a detailed history file that includes copies of the window sticker, order form, service history, and correspondence with the original owner and Ford Performance are included. In addition to detailed records, a tire inflator, two vehicle keys, owner's manuals, battery trickle charger, additional decal set, and the factory car cover are also included.
Celebrated for its timeless design, high-performance capabilities, and the enduring spirit of the historic racing legacy it embodies, the Ford GT Heritage Edition holds a special place in automotive history and has become one of the most highly sought-after and collectible modern supercars.
