We write 1972 when FIAT introduces the concept of the X1/9 to the public, equipped with a mid-engine and intended as a successor to the 850 Spider. Bertone was responsible for the design and later that year the first (247) copies would roll off the line and be delivered to the first owners. Production and deliveries of the model for the American market started in 1974 and until 1981 Fiat produced a total of more than 140,000 copies of the X1/9. In September 1978 the 1300 cc engine was replaced by the 1500 cc engine. In 1982 Bertone took over the production of the X1/9 and the model continued under the name Bertone X1/9. Bertone produced the last copies in 1988 under the name 'grand finals' after which production stopped.

Our copy can rightly be called special. Intended for the Americans, this copy was delivered new and unused in an Italian car museum in 1988, how could it be otherwise: Torino, where it was only registered in 1992. In 2004 the Bertone got a Dutch registration, at that time only 44 Miles on the clock and was therefore still in absolute mint condition. Today the car is still in near mint condition because the current mileage reads only 9405 Miles, it goes without saying that we can offer you this example with due pride.

The paint is like new, the interior is like new, all booklets are included, the original Italian registration certificate, of course, invoices, a fully conclusive history, equipped with a factory air conditioning (in a convertible!), we do not think that, knowing that the vast majority of the X1/9 has succumbed to the excessive rusting at that time, another unique example exists somewhere on this planet. It should come as no surprise that driving this fantastically preserved example is something very special. The 1500 cc engine with injection, which is mounted directly behind the seats, runs beautifully and, despite the modest engine power of only 75 hp by today's standards, it has no trouble at all to move the car 'sporty' from A to B. The 5-speed manual gearbox shifts smoothly. The maintenance booklet and various invoices confirm the good care this unique example has received. The car magazines also wrote about this Bertone at the time, this documentation can also be found in the documentation that the car is rich in.
