Founded in 1930, Carrozzeria Pininfarina has both designed and manufactured automobiles, most notably for Ferrari, but also Peugeot, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, even Cadillac. They began collaborating on a two-seat sports car for Fiat in the late fifties, the Fiat 1200 Spider, which evolved into the 'Tipo 118G' 1500 Spider starting in 1961. Pininfarina manufactured the bodies before sending them to Fiat for final assembly. The intent was a sports car with the power and comfort required by America's roads and drivers. In 1964 the 1500 was upgraded with more power from a new 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with two-barrel Weber carburetors, delivering 80 hp and a top speed of 100 mph. Power front disc brakes were also added, and styling updated slightly. Car and Driver magazine had legendary racer Ken Miles test drive one, who stated, "It's a very driver-oriented car." This well cared-for 1965 1500 Spider is finished in red with matching interior and black soft top. The chrome has been recently refinished, and service records dating back to 2011 show a fresh brake and transmission overhaul and new tires. Since acquiring this car in August 2020, the current owner spent approximately $19K in servicing and refreshening to bring the car to current condition. This is a clean, beautiful coachbuilt Italian classic with famous Pininfarina style and entertaining performance ready to be driven.
