Made ubiquitous through its countless appearances in television, video games, and on countless bedroom-wall posters, the Ferrari Testarossa's reputation as an icon of the 1980s precedes it. The Pininfarina designed Testarossa (1984-1991) remains one of the most coveted and widely recognizable models of the marque for its era-defining styling, superb drivability, and legendary performance.
This left-hand-drive, U.S.-market example of Maranello's unmistakable 1980s flagship presents today in virtually the same condition as when it left the factory in January 1989. Finished in timeless Rosso Corsa over a Beige and Testa di Moro Connolly leather interior with Bruciato carpets, it is one of approximately 261 examples dispatched to the United States in 1989. The car's window sticker shows that the new Ferrari was purchased from Kessler Motors in New York for a sticker price of $141,780.00 (the equivalent of over $360,000 today). The original owner, a New York-based collector of vintage Italian sports cars, is understood to have taken delivery of the Testarossa showing 120 delivery miles and to have placed the car in climate-controlled storage where it remained for 23 years. In 2012, now showing only 129 miles from new, the car emerged from storage for a comprehensive engine-out belt service which is said to have included replacing the timing belts, hoses, and fuel pump.
Following this service, the Ferrari passed to only its second private owner who continued the remarkable preservation of this time-capsule example and its accessories, travelling less than 20 miles before selling to the current owner in 2019. Now offered with 154 total miles from new at the time of cataloging, this Testarossa remains an unaltered, museum-quality specimen owing to the remarkable care of its three private owners. It exhibits all of its correct U.S.-specification features including its rear impact bumper, yellow front lights, third brake light, and rectangular side indicators. Inside, its passive restraint system is in place and its Connolly leather seat upholstery is uncreased. As a further testament to its incredible preservation, it is also accompanied by its complete original owner's manuals, tool kit, and jack kit. Additionally, in August 2024, the Testarossa visited Ferrari Beverly Hills for an annual service which included an oil and filter change and thorough inspection, as well as a window motor replacement.
With fewer than 160 miles on its odometer and its exceptional time capsule presentation, this is likely one of the finest preservation-grade Testarossas extant, making it an ideal preservation class entrant in concours or Ferrari Club of America events. Wherever it is displayed, this Testarossa will stand as a reference for the model and a crowning addition to any collection of low-mileage Ferraris.
