Beschreibung

In Japan, there is a principle referred to as Kaizen – it loosely translates to continuous improvement. For the 1992 model year, Ferrari invoked some Italian Kaizen on the Testarossa. Relaunched as the 512 TR, TR standing for Testa Rossa, the new car featured refreshed exterior and interior styling, more power and improved driving dynamics, but retained the clear Testarossa-ness of the original.

This particular example was supplied new in January of 1992 by Eberlein Automobile to Mr. Helmut Boczkowski. Mr Boczkowski would appear to have been quite the car enthusiast, having also owned a 993 Carrera RS. The Ferrari was imported into the UK and registered in 2014, but it did spend a period in France.

The car remains in its original specification, finished in Rosso exterior over a black interior. Re-styled by Pininfarina, the 512TR’s face is brought in line with the 348. Gone is any hint of 80s black plastic, in favour of colour-coded bumpers and smooth curves.

The paintwork is in excellent condition, with the only inclusions being a light peppering to the lower front bumper edge. The wheels are an extremely rare set of optional 18-inch three-piece split rims, with silver centres and polished lips, that are wrapped in a matching set of Pirelli P-Zero tyres.

Those aforementioned incremental improvements we spoke about have continued through to the interior. The seats, dash and door cards are all trimmed in black leather, with subtle embossed Cavallini adorning the headrests.

A triple stack of gauges sits in an isolated pod neatly below the centre of the dashboard, naturally aimed toward the driver, whilst the remaining instrumentation is housed in a leather-trimmed binnacle. The interior experience is capped off by the infamous clickity-clack of the gated manual shifter.

Lift the Testarossa emblazoned engine cover and you’ll find a 4.9-litre dry-sump lubricated flat 12, the same basic engine as the earlier car, but now the power is upped by nearly 10% to 428bhp thanks to revised cylinder heads and the latest Bosch fuel injection.

The additional power is put to good use, with improved weight distribution and a 33kg diet resulting in a top speed of 195mph and a sub-5-second dash to 60, bringing the 512 TR's performance more in line with its 90s competition.

Whilst Ferrari ownership is a dream for many, the less glamorous aspect is often the maintenance – it’s not the kind of job you want to whip out the Halfords advanced kit for and have a go yourself. Which is why this car has been exclusively maintained either within the Ferrari network, or with specialists.

Despite covering just 60,000km/37,000 miles over the last 3 decades, this 512 TR comes with an encompassing history file, including having a full service and cambelt replacement just a few weeks ago.

For many, including our very own Duke, the Testarossa is the ultimate dream car. While the original Testarossa famously graced the cover of OutRun, it was the 512 TR that took the spotlight in Need for Speed. It brought the Testarossa from Sega to Sony, delivering more power, more style, and a whole lot more poise.

This example, finished in a quintessential Rosso with its rare split rims, represents a unique opportunity to get behind the wheel of your dream car. Thanks to its all-important recent cambelt service, it is immediately ready to be enjoyed.

As with all our vehicles, an entire digital folder is available upon request and contains more images, walk-around videos, and scans of the service history. The car can also be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
