Beschreibung

While Ferrari would produce their first road-car over 75 years ago, it was not until the 2003 360 Challenge Stradale that the house of the prancing horse would release their first track-bred production car in large volume. Largely similar to the 360 Challenge race car, it enjoyed significant weight savings and consequent elevated performance to provide a similar experience offered to those competing in Ferrari's one-make 'Ferrari Challenge' racing series. After the transition to the F430, Ferrari would continue the trend of offering a track focused, performance variant with the 500 horsepower Scuderia that would soon follow. Now in fierce competition with the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera and Porsche GT3 RS, subsequent offerings such as the 458 Speciale would continue to raise the bar of mid-engined sports cars. After receiving incredibly high praise with the final Speciale model, Ferrari would continue to push the envelope with the new 488 GTB successor that would soon follow.

Configured with a mid-engine twin-turbocharged V8, the 488 GTB became the first model to utilize such a layout since the iconic F40 in 1987. With numerous technical improvements, the new 488 was crowned "Best Driver's Car" in 2017 by Motor Trend. It was only natural then, that a highly focused, track honed variant would soon arrive. As expected by many, the 2018 Geneva Motor Show featured the debut of Ferrari's fourth generation production road/track car aptly named the 488 'Pista' or track in Italian. Returning to their successful formula, technology is borrowed directly from the 488 Challenge and 488 GTE racing cars with Ferrari claiming that the Pista contains, "...the highest level yet of technological transfer from racing." Powered by a twin-turbocharged V8, highlighted upon introduction as, "the most powerful V8 engine in the Maranello marque's history," the 488 Pista exploits new features developed for the 488 Challenge car like a revised cooling system to accommodate the larger intercooler and lighter engine components resulting in a remarkable 17 percent reduction in rotational inertia. Sporting a redesigned front fascia with a Formula One inspired S-Duct, engineers were able to find 90 kilos of weight savings over the standard 488 GTB by implementing many weight savings techniques typically reserved for racing cars such as a Lexan rear window. Additional enhancements include a 20 percent improvement in aerodynamic efficiency with the Pista utilizing a larger ducktail style spoiler working in conjunction with a rear carbon fiber diffuser sourced from the GTE race car.

Ordered with over $175,000 in options, this highly customized 488 Pista is finished in the stunning and extremely rare Extra Campionario color of Grass Green. A vibrant color perfectly suited to this track based special, it closely resembles 'Viper Green', a Porsche color first offered in the early 1970s. Complemented by dual Nero racing stripes, this example features carefully selected factory options including 20-inch single-piece carbon fiber wheels and many exterior carbon fiber upgrades, to perfectly complement this unique specification. Optioned with an equally stunning interior, occupants are greeted by special matte green carbon fiber interior trim and 'large-size' carbon fiber racing seats featuring leather Nero upholstery and Verde accent stitching. While the 488 Pista is clearly at home on the track, this superb example offers many welcome luxury amenities including a suspension lifter, parking cameras, adaptive frontlight system, and Apple CarPlay. With each of these painstakingly and well selected exterior and interior choices, this Ferrari would be an ideal candidate to receive a 'perfect.spec' Instagram feature.

Offered in excellent condition with just 968 miles at the time of cataloging, this is an excellent opportunity for a collector to acquire one of Ferrari's most exhilarating offerings in a one-of-one specification - surely one of the finest and most unique to emerge from Maranello in recent years.
