In 2008, Ferrari won its 16th Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship, an unprecedented feat. To commemorate its monumental achievement, the fabled automaker endeavored to develop a special, highly limited road car for Maranello’s favorite customers. It would be called the Scuderia 16M for Ferrari’s 16 championship titles.

The 430 Scuderia’s 503 hp alloy V-8 was mated to an F1 Superfast 2 gearbox, capable of blistering 60 millisecond shifts. This combination resulted in 0–60 times of just 3.4 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 196 mph. Carbon ceramic brakes were fitted to provide massive stopping power. 60–0 braking was recorded in just 96 feet. A Formula 1-inspired electronic differential was coupled with the stability control system to provide intelligent torque vectoring, while complementing the 16M’s adjustable, race-tuned suspension. Suspension preferences were controlled by a steering wheelmounted manettino derived from Ferrari’s F1 program.

Additional bracing was required to retain the 430 Scuderia’s superb chassis rigidity in an open-roof version. Chassis bracing adds weight, which was not acceptable to Ferrari engineers, so they developed an elegant solution – the extensive deployment of carbon fiber. Carbon fiber components included the front splitter, rear diffuser, headlight housings, and outside mirrors. Inside, even the seat frames were constructed of carbon fiber then covered with weight-saving cloth. To further reduce weight, nearly all creature comforts, including the carpet, were removed in the pursuit of absolute performance. Intake boxes and the exhaust system were modified to perfect the engine and exhaust notes within the minimally insulated cockpit. The overall result of Ferrari’s performance elements and weight-reduction strategies was the fastest open-air road car produced by Maranello to date.

This one-owner Ferrari Scuderia Spider 16M is finished in the classic shade of Rosso Corsa with an Anthracite Metallic center stripe and Nero Opaca (Matte Black) wheels. The striking exterior is complemented by black Alcantara and mesh seats with carbon fiber accents throughout the interior. The car displayed just 5,139 miles at the time of cataloguing.
