Epitomizing the gran turismo concept, this expertly restored, Ferrari Classiche-certified 365 GTC/4 is one of the finest available today. Combining outstanding V-12 performance-nearing that of the harder-edged 365 GTB/4 Daytona with uncommon panache and 2+2 seating, the 365 GTC/4 debuted at Geneva in 1971 and replaced both the 365 GT 2+2 and 365 GTC.

Masterfully styled and rendered in steel by Pininfarina, the GTC/4 utilized a shortened chassis derived from that of the 365 GT 2+2. While sharing its 4.4-liter displacement with the Daytona, the 365 GTC/4 utilized specific cylinder heads, wet-sump lubrication, slightly lower compression, and six sidedraft Weber carburetors for hood clearance. Unlike the rear transaxle of the Daytona, the five-speed manual gearbox of the 365 GTC/4 was mounted up front in unit with the engine. Offering good luggage space plus air-conditioning, power steering, and self-leveling rear shocks, the 365 GTC/4 was ideal for fast, long-distance travel and capable of exceeding 150 mph. Just 500 were built over a brief 18-month run.

Unlike many other examples, this 365 GTC/4 boasts a limited roster of keepers from new. Hilary Raab’s volume on Ferrari serial numbers mentions 15933’s first owner as Mr. Albinus. It was delivered new in July 1972 via Jacques Swaters’ Garage Francorchamps, the famed Belgian Ferrari dealership.

Lt. Col. Bill L. “Billy” Story, who was then stationed with the US Army Air Corps in Europe, became the second owner of 15933 in 1974. An enthusiastic Ferrari owner, Lt. Col. Story is the grandfather of Bill Story Jr., of Ferrari of Newport Beach. Following Lt. Col. Story’s retirement from military life, the Ferrari relocated with him to Georgia. The consignor, a member of the US Congress from 2005 to 2015, acquired the car in May 2008, and its restoration soon commenced.

The leather interior surfaces were restored in 2008 soon after the congressman acquired it, with the virtually irreplaceable, factory-original mouse-hair dash treatment retained. Completed in 2014, the V-12 engine and gearbox were rebuilt by Rod Drew of Costa Mesa, California. The body, chassis, and suspension work were performed by expert Mike Regalia, who also attended to the vehicle’s reassembly, with the final work completed in 2015. Just before it was acquired by the consignor, 15933 also received certification by Ferrari Classiche. With less than 28,000 km indicated on the odometer and original colors inside and out, 15933 is offered complete with the all-important Ferrari Classiche Red Book and more than $300,000 in restoration receipts; the original and complete set of books; tools; a sales brochure; a CD containing more than 400 photos of the restoration; and several boxes of miscellaneous original parts. As such, 15933 is one of the finest of its kind and ticks all the boxes for an outstanding and rare classic V-12 Ferrari in a gorgeous package.
