Daytona Automobil presents this exceptional 1993 Ferrari 348 GT-LM Competizione, a unique Ferrari developed by Michelotto, the legendary racing partner of Ferrari. Unlike factory-built race cars, this particular car was commissioned by an Italian collector who wanted a GT-LM Competizione that remained fully road-legal. It is one of only two TS (Targa) models modified by Michelotto in this configuration, making it a truly unique piece of Ferrari history.
The original owner, who kept the car until 2001, documented its history in detail:
Statement from first owner: "My car was set up by Ferrari with the assistance of the Michelotto workshop in Padua, which has always developed and homologated Ferrari race cars (F348 Challenge, F355 Challenge, F333 SP, F360 Modena Challenge) for competition at Le Mans. There are very few examples of 348s set up in the Le Mans configuration. The car in question is particularly interesting because, at my specific request, no modifications were made that would affect road use, nor were some comfort features removed (such as air conditioning). This car is one of only two in the world with a removable roof; it did not participate in any competition and was set up for collector purposes only."
Delivered new in Italy, the car was later sold to the United States before returning to Germany, where we acquired it. This is not the first 348 GTC we have handled, and our knowledge of these rare Michelotto-modified Ferraris is extensive.
One of the most defining features is the Le Mans-style fixed headlights, replacing the original pop-up units. Since Le Mans is also raced at night, pop-up headlights were not a viable option. These static headlights give the 348 GT-LM Competizione an unmistakably aggressive look, instantly setting it apart from any other 348.
The chassis and bodywork were significantly revised with Kevlar and carbon fiber components to reduce weight. The bumpers, doors, and engine intake system were all redesigned for maximum performance, while lightweight Lexan windows replaced heavier glass elements. The roof is a lightweight removable panel, making this one of the two open-cockpit Michelotto Ferraris ever built.
Despite the extensive modifications, Michelotto ensured the engine remained refined enough to be road-legal—a testament to their engineering expertise. The engine and drivetrain was modified to competition specifications, including a single-disc competition clutch, lightweight flywheel, and full Tubi Style exhaust system. The engine management software (EPROM) was custom-tuned by Michelotto, optimizing power delivery while ensuring road compliance.
The car also features a Brembo F40 Evoluzione braking system, with massive 355mm ventilated steel discs, titanium-beryllium mounting flanges, and competition-grade Pagid racing pads. The wheels are magnesium Speedline Competizione, wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero tires.
Inside, the Michelotto modifications continue, with a full motorsport cockpit:
- F40-style carbon fiber racing seats, with sliding adjustments
- Multi-point removable roll bar
- Momo Corse quick-release racing steering wheel
- Fully adjustable competition pedal box
- Full FIA-compliant OMP fire suppression system
- Four-point Sabelt harnesses for driver and passenger
- Lightweight Kevlar and carbon fiber panels throughout the cabin
- Nomex-covered roll bar sections
Unlike most competition-focused Ferraris, this example retains its air conditioning system.
