Beschreibung
Pininfarina and Ferrari go together like Mac and Cheese. It was no surprise that Ferrari would choose the Turin-based outfit to pen their latest model. The 308 GTB, was launched in 1975 at the Paris Motorshow with the targa-topped GTS following suit in 1977.
Despite its delayed launch, the GTS would become the more popular car, adorning the bedroom walls of kids globally. The GTS had become a star, appearing alongside Tom Selleck (and his moustache) in Magnum P.I.
This example is a 1979 Ferrari 308 GTS. Externally, the car is finished in the traditional shade of Rosso Corsa. It’s not the car’s original hue, it was repainted in 2001 to an extremely high standard. The bodywork itself is in excellent condition, with only a handful of age-related marks. The car sits on its original set of 14” Speedline magnesium wheels, finished in the correct shade of silver with yellow centre caps. Wrapped in a matching set of Michelin XWS tyres with plenty of tread.
The interior is of course finished in lashing of crema leather - It’s the perfect contrast to the bright red exterior. The steering wheel is the original three-spoke thin-rimmed MOMO item, it’s the perfect tactile accoutrement to the traditional gated-manual gear linkage. Nothing screams you’re driving something truly special, more than a gated manual gearbox.
The interior is also in excellent shape, with limited signs of wear. The speedometer and other gauges are all fully functioning. The car was supplied new with air conditioning though this was removed by a previous owner, however, the parts are included in the sale to refit should you choose. There is also an upgraded DAB radio with focal speakers.
Under the bonnet, the Ferrari is powered by a 2.9-litre V8. The engine is a development of the original Dino V6 and would remain in production until 2004, powering numerous iconic Ferraris such as the 355 and F40 in more high-performance guises. In this application the engine produces around 250bhp, it’s plenty of power for a relatively light car.
The engine runs smoothly, and the gear changes are slick. It’s no doubt that the car runs so well thanks to an extensive service record. With it’s most recent service took place in December 2024 by Ian Ellis Classic Alfa, which included an engine service and the installation of a new set of front brake pads.
Whilst the 308 isn’t the most complex of Ferrari models, it is still a Ferrari and thus a regular schedule of detailed maintenance is necessary. Thankfully, that is something this car has been subjected to, with key intervals including:
09/2019 - Service & Cambelts - 11,323 miles - Classic and Race
06/2010 - Service & Cambelts - Jackson and How
08/2005 - Service - 3,391 miles - Gray Paul
07/2004 - Service - 1,287 miles - Gray Paul
08/2003 - Speedometer Replaced - 43,438 miles - Gray Paul
08/2001 - Service & Cam Belts - 40,982 miles - Verdi Ferrari
04/1987 - Service - 36,041 miles - Performance Cars Workshop
05/1984 - Service & Cam Belts - 31,907 miles - Performance Cars Workshop
If you’re looking to live out your classic Ferrari dreams, there is arguably no better place to look than a 308 GTS. It checks all of the boxes with Pininfarina styling, a V8 soundtrack, TV provenance and an open-top driving experience.
This example is in excellent condition, with a great service record in the iconic colour combination. Moustache is not required.
As with all our vehicles, a full digital folder is available on request containing more images, walk-around videos, and scans of the service history. The car can also be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
