Beschreibung
Introduced at the Paris Salon in 1975, the stunningly beautiful 308 GTB, Ferrari's second V8 engined road car, marked a welcome return to Pininfarina styling following the Bertone-designed Dino 308 GT4. Badged as a 'proper' Ferrari rather than a Dino, the newcomer had changed little mechanically apart from a reduction in wheelbase, whilst retaining its predecessor's underpinnings and transversely mounted quad-cam, 3.0-litre V8, which now featured dry-sump lubrication. In road tune, this superbly engineered power unit produced 255bhp, an output good enough to propel the aerodynamically efficient 308 to a top speed of 150mph (240km/h). Produced initially with glass-fibre (Vetroresina) bodywork (the first time this material had been used for a production Ferrari) the Scaglietti built 308 GTB using steel after April 1977. This change in construction brought with it a considerable weight penalty (around 80kg) and consequently a reduction in performance, as well as increased susceptibility to corrosion. Naturally, anyone wanting to race a 308 GTB started out with the Vetroresina version if they could.
Classically finished in Rosso Corsa over Crema leather, this 308 was supplied new by Grassicks Garage in Perth with the pre-delivery inspection details stamped into the original service book on 8/11/1976. From the well-filled history file containing many receipts for general maintenance carried out over the years we can see that the engine was rebuilt by Dave Brooks Engines of Crewe in 2006 with further work the following year listed as 'Performance cams, injectors and engine top end rebuild' by JMH Automotive. Further receipts indicate an annual service and further works by Foskers in 2012.
The Ferrari was purchased by our vendor in June 2016 from the Supercar Rooms, Worcestershire and at the time of purchase was treated to a major service, new timing belts, and front wheel bearings. In July the same year, Foskers repainted the front bumper and set the engine up to run more smoothly with the performance cams fitted. There are more recent invoices relating to replacing metal work on the chassis, removal of fibreglass panels, repair where necessary, new inner wheel arches and new boot floor. We understand over £15,000 was invested at this point.
The 308 is supplied with the normal vehicle documents, a copy handbook, original service book, a quantity of expired MOTs and Tax Discs back to 1986 and the current V5C.
