Beschreibung
This striking Ferrari 308 is an early production example, and one of few clothed in fiberglass (vetroresina) prior to a switch to steel bodies in 1977. Factory records place Vetroresina production at 808 examples; however, 712 is generally accepted among marque enthusiasts to be a more reliable figure. It is certain that Vetroresinas represent only a fraction of 308 production – which totaled more than 12,000 – and that composite-bodied cars weigh roughly 15% less than their steel-bodied successors.
This extraordinary Rosso Chiaro (Light Red) 308 GTB benefits from extensive recent maintenance, including a major service incorporating fitment of a new timing belt, a valve adjustment, service of its air-conditioning system, rebuilding of all four brake calipers, and new tires. The copy of its window sticker on file shows that this 308 was initially sent to Chinetti-Garthwaite Imports Inc. in Paoli, Pennsylvania. According to its warranty book, it was then apparently dealer-traded to M.S. Imports of Louisville, Kentucky, which retailed it new to local medical doctor Hugh Williams in February 1977. Correspondence on file from Steve Harris Imports in Salt Lake City memorializes subsequent owners through the ensuing decades.
Lithe, responsive, and musical thanks to its lightweight construction and quad Weber carburetors, a beautifully presented Vetroresina such as this offers the purest and most enjoyable 308 driving experience available.
