En 1986, après l’interdiction des voitures de Gr. B, Peugeot, toujours prêt à sortir les griffes, avec Jean Todt, l’homme fort du marketing et de la compétition, décide d’offrir une nouvelle vie à l’iconique et bestiale 205 T16. C’est ainsi qu’en 1987, la 205 T16 Grand Raid adaptée aux conditions difficiles des pistes et déserts africains gagnera « facilement », aux mains d'Ari Vatanen, le Dakar… et toute une série de Rallyes Raids. Le début d’une longue aventure poursuivie avec la 405 Turbo 16 Grand Raid, puis avec… la Citroën ZX Rallye Raid. Après le retrait de Peugeot, Guy Frequelin installe ensuite en effet ses deux pilotes vedettes, Ari Vatanen et Pierre Lartigue, aux commandes de l’ancienne Lionne victorieuse, modifiée et transformée en ZX. Coup d’essai, coup de maître : cette inédite ZX Rallye Raid issue du défunt Gr. B va tout gagner et installer dès 1993 la marque aux Chevrons en tête de la Coupe du Monde de Rallye Raid. La ZX, d’abord jaune (Camel), puis rouge (loi Evin oblige), ne quittera plus les podiums de la discipline jusqu’à sa retraite forcée en 1997.

La ZX Rallye Raid que nous présentons est née #C26 en 1994. Cette Evo 2 va être alignée en coupe du monde sur 2 courses :
- Rallye de Tunisie 1994, Hubert Auriol / Gilles Picard, 4e
- Rallye de l’Atlas 1994, Hubert Auriol / Gilles Picard, 3e

La voiture sera ensuite upgradée en Evo 3 en cours de saison, devenant #C326, avant d’être alignée au départ de deux épreuves l’année suivante :
- Rallye de Tunisie 1995, Ari Vatanen / Fabrizia Pons, 3e
- Rallye de l’Atlas 1995, Ari Vatanen / Fabrizia Pons, Victoire !

Propriété de Citroën jusqu’en 2014, et révisée juste avant sa vente au propriétaire actuel, #C321 se présente à nous dans un incroyable état cosmétique et mécanique. La voiture démarre au quart de tour et semble peu usée, presque prête à prendre le départ du prochain Dakar Classic… où aucune ZX Rallye Raid n’a pour l’instant posé ses roues ! Sans parler du fait que c’est assurément l’une des ZX Rallye Raid qui compte le plus beau palmarès, avec deux pilotes éminemment charismatiques. Le baquet usé par Hubert Auriol, puis Ari Vatanen n’attend donc plus que vous…

In 1986, after the banning of Gr. B cars, Peugeot, always ready to pull out the claws, with Jean Todt, the strong man of marketing and competition, decided to offer a new life to the iconic and bestial 205 T16. Thus, in 1987, the 205 T16 Grand Raid, adapted to the difficult conditions of the African tracks and deserts, won the Dakar "easily", in the hands of Ari Vatanen... and a whole series of Rally Raids. This was the beginning of a long adventure that continued with the 405 Turbo 16 Grand Raid, then with the Citroën ZX Rallye Raid. After the withdrawal of Peugeot, Guy Frequelin installed his two star drivers, Ari Vatanen and Pierre Lartigue, at the controls of the victorious former Lionne, modified and transformed into a ZX. A test run, a master stroke: this brand new ZX Rally Raid from the defunct Gr. B was to win everything and install the Chevron brand at the head of the Rally Raid World Cup from 1993. The ZX, first yellow (Camel), then red (due to the Evin law), was to remain on the podium until its forced retirement in 1997.

The ZX Rallye Raid we present was born #C26 in 1994. This Evo 2 will be entered in 2 races:
- Rally of Tunisia 1994, Hubert Auriol / Gilles Picard, 4th
- 1994 Atlas Rally, Hubert Auriol / Gilles Picard, 3rd

The car was upgraded to Evo 3 during the season, becoming #C326, before being entered in two events the following year:
- 1995 Rally of Tunisia, Ari Vatanen / Fabrizia Pons, 3rd
- 1995 Atlas Rally, Ari Vatanen / Fabrizia Pons, Victory!

Owned by Citroën until 2014, and serviced just before its sale to the current owner, #C321 comes to us in incredible cosmetic and mechanical condition. The car starts right up and looks almost ready to take the start of the next Dakar Classic... where no ZX Rally Raid has yet set its wheels! Not to mention the fact that it is certainly one of the ZX Rally Raids with the best track record, with two eminently charismatic drivers.
