For André Citroën, American production methods were the examples to follow, and he was the first French manufacturer to adopt "all-steel" manufacturing, following Edward Budd's patent. This system forced him to invest in expensive stamping processes, but it has the merit of simplifying production by eliminating the complex wooden structure on which traditional bodies were mounted. Launched in 1924, the 10 HP Type B10 was the first Citroën to benefit from this progress. Like any innovative model, it experienced early problems which were resolved on the next version, the B12, launched in October 1925, one which received a more rigid chassis, better suited to its body. Additionally, this model also benefited from brakes on the front wheels.
This B12 in torpedo body style was previously registered in Meurthe et Moselle. It joined the collection in November 1994 after having already received a refurbishment. The paint and the upholstery in black faux leather had been redone. We noted that the door handles were missing and that the instrumentation on the dashboard was partially complete and included non- original elements. Having not been driven since 2012, this pretty car will need a restart and a complete overhaul.
