Chevrolet engineers felt they could no longer defy the laws of physics. 2019 would be the last year for the classic front-mid engine Corvette, the 2020 C8 finally making the switch to a mid-rear engine design. Commemorating the last of the C7s was the incredible ZR1, introduced in 2018. Motor Trend said it well: "This is it. The zenith. The top dog. The 755-horsepower ne plus ultra Chevrolet Corvette C7. The most powerful and likely the last variant of the front-engine Corvette."

It's no coincidence the ZR1 looks like the Corvette Racing C7.R as lessons learned winning its class in the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans along with three IMSA Team Championships and two IMSA Constructors Championships formed the ZR1's unique front fascia and rear wing. However, the C7.R produced less than 500 horsepower per GTLM rules. Under - and through - the ZR1's unique hood is the most powerful street engine ever built by Chevrolet, the supercharged pushrod 376 cu-in (6,162 cc) LT5 generating 755 hp at 6,300 rpm and 715 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm. The Eaton 2.65-liter is three inches taller than the Z06's and is exposed through the hood for clearance. The throttle body is 95mm in diameter and is capable of consuming 1,450 cubic feet of air per minute. Keeping the LT5 cool are four radiators and a total of 13 heat exchangers. The result is 0-60 in 2.85 seconds, around 6 seconds to 100 mph, and the quarter mile in 10.6 seconds. The ZR1 was also tested to a top speed of 212 mph.

This one-owner black-on-black 2019 ZR1 shows less than 400 miles from delivery to Courtesy Chevrolet in Phoenix. Desirable options include the track-focused $2,995 ZTK Track Performance Package which includes the Performance Ride and Handling Suspension, front P285/30ZR19 and rear P335/25ZR20 Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup 2 summer-only tires, an adjustable high-wing spoiler, and specific front splitter end caps. The added aero bits generate a reported 950 pounds of downforce. This ZR1 also features the $10,000 3ZR Preferred Equipment Group, which includes a custom leather-wrapped interior, BOSE Premium Sound System with Sirius XM satellite radio, power telescoping steering wheel, heated seats, GPS, and other amenities.

Chevrolet built 2,441 ZR1 coupes and 512 ZR1 convertibles before making way for the new C8. Second chances are rare - so is an as-new 2019 Corvette ZR1 Coupe.
