The 1954 Chevrolet Corvette marked the car's second production year, solidifying its place as an American sports car icon. Originally envisioned as a "dream car" under Harley Earl's design team, it debuted in 1953 as a sleek fiberglass-bodied roadster. By 1954, Chevrolet increased production significantly, building 3,640 units compared to the prior year's 300. Minor mechanical tweaks were introduced, including improved fuel and brake line routing. A broader color palette, featuring shades like Pennant Blue and Sportsman Red, joined the original Polo White exterior with red interiors.
Built approximately 4 May 1954, this 1954 Corvette features an older comprehensive restoration in rare Sportsman Red with a Red upholstered interior and Beige soft top. It is believed that just four percent of production was finished in all-red that year. It, like all 1954 Corvettes, is powered by the venerable Blue Flame inline-six with its three side-draft Carter carburetors coupled to a sturdy Powerglide two-speed transmission. Furthermore, it is currently fitted with windshield wipers, a heater, a parking brake alarm, and Wonderbar radio. Since joining the Academy of Art University Collection in 2009 it has served as an early example of "America's Sports Car" famed for its innovative construction inspiring numerous students with its Jet Age styling and sporting intentions. It is offered with a full sized spare and pair of side curtains.
