Cadillac's 1930s models were a triumph of engineering and design, setting an unparalleled standard for luxury and performance that continues to define the marque to this day. Under the visionary guidance of Harley Earl, the young Californian designer who redefined the automotive aesthetic, Cadillac established itself as the epitome of sophistication and innovation. Earl, who had already garnered attention for his work on the 1927 LaSalle, was handpicked by Cadillac president Lawrence Fisher to helm the newly formed Art & Colour Section at General Motors-the first of its kind in the industry. Earl's philosophy that cars were not merely products, but objects of desire transformed Cadillac into a symbol of status and refinement.

While the V12 and V16 Cadillacs captured the public's imagination with their power and prestige, it was the V8 models that solidified Cadillac's dominance in the marketplace. This stunning 1931 Cadillac 355-A Roadster is one of those very models. The epitome of Earl's artistry features the distinctive styling elements that made Cadillac the "Standard of the World."

A comprehensive restoration was completed under previous ownership, which is said to have cost more than $200,000. Finished in a vibrant two-tone red and black, its exterior is further complemented by a rich black interior and top. The car is detailed with dual side-mount spares, painted wire wheels with gleaming stainless-steel spokes, wide whitewall tires, C.M. Hall Lamp Company Depress beam headlamps, and distinctive Pilot Ray driving lights-the addition of a golf club door, rumble seat, and luggage rack complete this well-appointed example.

Today, this 1931 Cadillac 355-A V8 Roadster remains a stunning example of Cadillac's pre-war market dominance. Eligible for display at countless events worldwide, this Classic Car Club of America Full Classic truly represents what was once referred to as the "Standard of the World."
