Beschreibung

Chassis No. 14338392

Engine No. 44579418

Influenced by Harvey Earl's revolutionary "Y-Job" concept car, Buick employed a completely new design language for their 1941 models. The styling featured sculpted fenders reminiscent of an airfoil integrated with the streamlined hood, lower windshield, and unique stainless-steel trim. This rakish design was combined with the proven "Dynaflash Fireball" straight-eight engine with compound carburation, offering both style and performance. Marking the final model update before Buick's factories were retooled for wartime production, only 92,000 cars were produced for the model year compared to nearly 380,000 cars in 1941. While over 30,000 of these were Series 50 Supers, less than 2,500 were built as highly collectible Convertible Coupes.

The Series 50 Super Convertible Coupe presented here is finished in charming Honolulu Blue with a tan canvas electrically operated convertible top and a tan cloth interior with blue leather trim. Chrome hubcaps, beauty rings, whitewall tires, fender skirts, and AM radio enhance the car's period-correct appearance. After completing the restoration to the highest standards, the car was successfully shown with the AACA, earning a First Junior and Senior Award in 1991, a First Grand National in 1992, and a Senior Grand National Award in 1994 and 1996. Prior to the current owner purchasing the car in 2011, the vehicle received additional refurbishment work from renowned Buick authority and restorer Art Wright of Arizona.

Given the brief production run of the 1942 Buicks, surviving examples today are increasingly rare and coveted models by discerning enthusiasts. This exceptional Series 50 Super Convertible Coupe, one of the few remaining, offers its next owner a blend of historical significance, stunning beauty, and driving enjoyment-whether for exhibition or on any stretch of timeless road, as a wonderful highway car that is capable of cruising with modern traffic. Offered from a formidable collection of important Buicks, it represents a pinnacle of American automotive design just before the onset of World War II.
