Beschreibung
In the 1930’s, to avoid excessive customs duties, it was quite common in Switzerland to acquire a rolling chassis and have it clothed by one of the 50 local coachworks in Switzerland. Our Buick, completed in 1934, was delivered to Switzerland at the end of the year and “Karosserie Langenthal» coachworks was commissioned to finish a body to the Alexis Kellner/Paris design number 322. After completion, the elegant cabriolet was registered for the first time in 1935. The early history of the car is not known but from 1949 it was registered in the name of Monsieur Stoeveken from Geneva who years later left it at a breakers yard in Neuchatel. There, the exceedingly rare and by then very sorry looking Buick was discovered by a garage owner and acquired by him in March 1976. Two years later he started a complete restoration which took more than 10 years to complete. The powerful inline 8 engine was overhauled together with all other mechanical components and the coachwork, interior and soft top were all renewed. Numerous parts had to be manufactured from scratch and searching for parts, in the days before Internet, proved to be a monstrous challenge. Photographs and records of all the work completed are available and will be handed over with the Buick. In 1990 the restoration was finally completed on the rare cabriolet with a Swiss coachwork was reborn. A number of years it was driven on dealer plates only before, in June 1996, it was registered and MOT’d as a veteran car for the first time. In the past 19 years the Buick has only been driven around 11’000 kilometres and was normally parked in the small collection of the garage owner. After his demise a number of years ago, the family has now decided to sell the Buick. The car still presents itself in outstanding condition and is sold with the latest veteran MOT from March 2025.
